The open pit mine at Ajo. It's huge. If you look at the hill in the background that's about the size of the hill the mine started with. The hole is now over 1100 feet deep and has hit the water table in the area. There is a small lake at the bottom of the hole that is 34 feet deep. The mine closed in the 80's.
