I have a rooftop dish for DirecTV on the MH. The problem, of course
is that when we're in the trees, we couldn't get TV. I have a tripod
dish for those occasions, but I'm kind of lazy, and I didn't like
having to re-cable things to set up the tripod.
OK, let's start with the A/B switch. It's a simple device, and can
be used to reroute the signal from different devices, to a single
point, or from a single device to different points. In this case,
this is how it works, and it will work for Winnebagos with the Video
Distribution Center in the AV cabinet.
Switch one: You will have to start by disconnecting the cable TV
feed from the back of the input connection on the back of the VDC,
and reconnect that cable to the Input/Output connection on the back
of the A/B Switch. Next, take a short length of cable, and connect
that from the A connection on the A/B Switch to the Cable In, on
the VDC.
Now take a second length of cable, and connect that from the B connection
on A/B one, to the B connection on A/B 2. Connect the cable that
comes in from the roof top dish to the A connection on A/B 2. Finally
connect a cable from the I/O connection on A/B two to the In From
Sat connection on the back of the DTV Receiver. You should already
have the cable connected from the Out to TV connection on the receiver
to the Sat In on the VDC.
Once this is done, the default positions for both A/B switch's is
A button in. In this position you can connect to park cable, have
your dish up, and by selecting Cable or Sat on the front of the
VDC choose the source of your TV signal. You can even have Cable
on one TV, and Sat on the other.
When you set up the tripod DTV dish, attach the cable from that
dish to the Park Cable connection on the rig. Press both B switch's,
and press the Sat button on the VDC. You will now have satellite
signal from the Park Cable input on your rig. With a hundred foot
of cable, trees won't be much of a problem. :-)
