This is an example of the tug and barge traffic on the
Mississippi River. This tug is pushing 31 barges up river.
The barges are huge, each one bigger than the tug. The
captain of the river boat we were on in Tunica was a tug
operator for several years and gave Lon and me a lot of
information about the way these things work. When they
turn at a bend in the river they let the river do most
of the work, so in this case the river is pushing against
the back, left of the group, causing the whole mess to
turn left. Another interesting part of this great country. |
